Mombasa Ready To Hold First Skal Congress in Africa
Mombasa County will in October this year host the 79th Skal Congress that will attract over 500 delegates from across the world.
Plans are at advanced stage for the four-day event slated to take place from October 17 to October 21, 2018.
Dubbed “Congress on the Beach”, the event will be held at Pride Inn Paradise Hotel in Shanzu and this will be the first time that the organisation, whose headquarters is in Spain, is holding the global event in Africa.
Owners and top management in the hotels, airlines, tour operators and travel agents as well as influencers of the travel and tourism industry are set to grace the event.
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho hailed the event saying; “Members will have the opportunity to meet with experts who will offer insights into trends and emerging technologies in the travel and tourism market, plus finding ways to improve the business and stay competitive in the current economic climate.”
In Kenya, Skal is represented by two chapters – Skal Kenya Nairobi founded in 1954 and Skal Kenya Coast — founded in the 1960s.
According to the Skal Kenya, the hosts of the Congress, the event will reaffirm Kenya’s position as a leading player in the world of tourism.
“Skal World Congress coming to Kenya is a great achievement for Kenya’s tourism sector. We are using this opportunity to showcase the best of Mombasa to the world and leave a lasting impression on the delegates,” says Silvester Mbandi, Skal Kenya President.
“We plan to host the welcome cocktail at Fort Jesus. We are working with an event organiser to light and theme Fort Jesus in a manner to compliment the historical site, creating a one of it as kind experience to the delegates.
Skal has over 15,000 members in 400 clubs in over 90 countries.
