Where Culinary Passion Meets Community Transformation

In 2004, chefs from around the world gathered in Dublin under the World Association of Chefs Societies (Worldchefs) and officially designated October 20th as International Chefs Day. What began as a global initiative to celebrate the culinary profession has, over the last two decades, transformed into a powerful movement that blends artistry with community service. Chefs Day has since become a symbol of unity and purpose, reminding the world that chefs are not only masters of taste but also mentors, educators, and changemakers.

East Africa embraced this spirit wholeheartedly. Over the years, Chefs Day in the region has been marked by vibrant celebrations that extend far beyond kitchens and dining halls. In cities and towns across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda, chefs have rolled up their sleeves to feed orphans, mentor aspiring cooks, and educate communities about nutrition and food safety. The impact has been tangible, past editions have seen chefs come together to prepare meals for more than 500 orphans, organize cooking competitions that inspire excellence, and create fun, engaging activities for children that promote healthy eating. These efforts have left a lasting imprint, turning Chefs Day into an annual highlight on the East African hospitality calendar.

This year, the celebration reaches a major milestone as the 20th anniversary of Chefs Day takes place in Arusha, Tanzania, on Saturday, 18th October 2025. Arusha, often referred to as the safari capital of East Africa, offers the perfect backdrop for this milestone edition. Known for its rich cultural diversity, vibrant hospitality industry, and culinary traditions, the city provides a fitting stage to honor two decades of culinary service and to chart the way forward.

The 20th anniversary celebration will feature:

  • Community feeding programs that capture the spirit of giving.
  • Live cooking demonstrations and competitions showcasing East Africa’s best chefs.
  • Spotlight sessions on Adopt A Chef, an initiative redefining Chefs Day by turning one-day charity into long-term career empowerment for vulnerable youth.
  • Networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities for chefs, hoteliers, suppliers, and food enthusiasts.

This milestone celebration is made possible through the support of visionary partners who share the commitment to shaping the future of hospitality in the region:
